Millen Vari-Arm VFO

QST for January, 1941 carried an article by Henry E. Rice Jr. W9YZH entitled The Variarm 150'. Rice's article detailed an electron-coupled VFO circuit designed to produce a clean, stable note and was innovative both mechanically and electrically. Two of its most obvious features are the lack of a case enclosure (the tubes can't contribute to heat build up-produced drift) and the vernier tuning arm from which the device gets its name. The following month the James Millen Mfg Company ran an ad in QST announcing the Rice-Variarm ECO, also known as the Millen Model 90700; price, $29.50 complete with tubes.
