Johnson Viking Pacemaker

Johnson’s Pacemaker phasing-type SSB transmitter employed an unusual scheme to cover 80 through 10 meters.  The sideband signal (along with CW and AM) was generated on a different, crystal-controlled frequency for each band.  The generator operated 3 MHz lower than the bottom edge of each HF band (i.e., at 500 kHz for 80 meters, 4 MHz for 40, and 25 MHz on 10).  This signal was mixed with that of the VFO which tuned 3-3.5 MHz for 80 through 15 meters, and 3-4.7 MHz on 10 meters.

Power input to the 6146 final was 90 watts on CW, 90 P.E.P SSB, and 35 watts AM.  Operation on AM was accomplished with one sideband and inserted carrier.  The Pacemaker featured a Pi-net output (50 – 600 ohms), VOX, and a self-contained power supply; 1956 $495.00
