Johnson Viking Invader

With the introduction of the Invader in 1960, Johnson departed in both style and substance from its earlier sideband transmitter, the Pacemaker.  The heart of the new rig was a 9 MHz filter-type sideband generator which, along with a 5 MHz VFO and one or two mixers, gave it coverage of 80 – 10 meters.  A pair of 6146 finals yielded 200 watts input on sideband and CW, 90 watts AM.  The Invader’s metering circuits read in terms of output: the operator peaked the driver stages, then adjusted the final’s pi-network tune and load controls for maximum output as well; $619.50, 1960.
