Millen DFP-201 Receiver Millen Almost produced a receiver for the ham market. The DFP-201 pictured here incorporated such signature innovations as the moving coil catacomb from Jim Millen's days at National. The effort to avoid compromise and make the receiver a first-class product also made it prohibitively expensive to produce. The 201 did away with the motor-driven tuning, bandswitching, and other features of the 501, but it was not possible to trim enough from the basic receiver and still meet Millen's design goals. There was no place in the 1947 market for a receiver that cost well over $2000 to manufacture, so only a few incomplete prototypes of this stillborn venture exist today. |
