DRAKE 1-A Incorporating a pass-band tuning device Bob Drake conceptualized during a period of convalescence, he aimed the 1-A squarely at the growing number of sideband devotees. Few other ham manufacturers had the prescience to realize that smaller was better in 1957. Although the R.L. Drake company had been in business for more than two decades, the 1-A and equipment to follow made it a giant in the amateur market. The triple-conversion, 80 - 10 meter, 11-tube receiver sold for $299. |
