Amateur Radio is my main hobby. Licensed as KN9OCO in 1957, upgrading to K9OCO the following year. I held the call sign N4QB from 1977 through late 2003. Now I am K9OCO again.  Before the internet and web pages such as these, a 12-year old kid could sit in his basement talking to people on the other side of the earth . . . without wires or computers.

Occasionally getting out of my basement, I've operated from several European countries with my QRP rig and from the Asian super-station, A61AJ. The 2001 SSB WPX contest effort earned 1st place, Multi-Multi in the world.

In the past few years, I've combined my profession with my hobby and photographed more than 2400 pieces of vintage amateur radio gear. Many of these photos have appeared in the Radio Classics calendars published by CQ Communications from 1993 through 2007.  A book with many of these pictures (50 Years of Amateur Radio Innovation: Receivers, Transmitters, and Transceivers, 1930-1980) has been published by the American Radio Relay League. A companion "50 Years" CD containing more than 800 additional photos is also available.
